Krista Locklear

Teacher/Choreographer

Krista Locklear, a Huntersville native, began her dance career at the young age of 3 at a local dance studio. She competed until she graduated high school and excelled at it, placing in the overalls and winning serveral judges choice awards throughout the years. She trained under some of the most influential instructors in the industry, attending numerous conventions in the south. Her performances include Disney World, where she and her competition team earned their way to the stage. Her teaching experience began at an early age as well, when she was an apprentice and assistant for classes as a student herself. She attended UNCC and graduated with a degree in Sociology. From college until now she has grown as an instructor for competitive teams and recreational programs across the Charlotte & Lake Norman area. She continues to learn and grow alongside the best team in the dance industry here at Elite Dance Company. Her students have won numerous overall awards, judges awards and scholarships to conventions and pagaents at the Regional and National level throughout the United States. She is a several time choreography award recipient and has also received entertainment awards! You will see her passion and love for the art as soon as you see her in action. She is fun-loving and will most likely sing to you in class! She is married to greatest man alive, Justin, and you will see him often supporting the students during their performances as well! She is proud and excited to be a part of the Elite Dance Company family.

I started dancing when I was 9 years old at a small studio in Bluefield, West Virginia. Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Modern, you name it I took it! I started competing at the age of 11 and realized it’s where I wanted to be for the rest of my life. On the stage! After graduating high school, I attended Oklahoma City University, where I studied Dance Management. Later I transferred to Radford University to continue my study in Dance. While in school I realized that choreography was something I wanted to pursue! “Being able to create something so powerful and watching exactly what you dreamed of being performed right in front of you. Art coming alive!” My talent and passion in the beginning was with the older and more advanced students. My choreography won on the national level many times and began to be very well known in the dance world. These students have continued to amaze me with all they are accomplishing. I soon realized that a great teacher can teach anyone to dance! My new challenge was to make sure that everyone in my studio had a quality dance education and enjoyed every step they took. I love the fact that my students who have no intention, at this time in their lives, to dance for a living, love to come to the studio and share in all the joys that dance has to offer. I can’t take the credit for all of this, it goes to the wonderful teachers we have on faculty that want to share, not only their knowledge, but their enthusiasm for something that has brought them so much joy.
